The ‘Game of Thrones’- sequel series ‘House of the Dragon’ is aiming for a 2022 release, according to HBO programming chief Casey Bloys in an interview with Variety.
It is the story of the House Targaryen set 300 years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones’ (the book series are titled ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’) and is based from material from the imaginary history novel ‘Fire & Blood’, also written by George RR Martin.
The author wrote a blog post October 30th last year in which he opened up about the new show when it got ordered a full ten episodes long season.
There are/were more ‘Game of Thrones’- spin-offs planned and we know the fate of one of these: the one he kept calling ‘The Long Night’ and that was supposed to take place 8000 years before ‘House of the Dragon’ and ‘A Song of Ice And Fire’ and go in-depth on The White Walkers- origin. It’s been sadly cancelled and more details are to be found in the linked blog post and the interview.
I’ll keep you updated as soon as new info emerge.

And here is another, seemingly confirming the info:
Nightflyers is one of February’s highlights arriving to NETFLIX.
It’s a SCI-FI series based on the GEORGE RR MARTIN novella with the same name.
Earlier this year, it was announced that a couple of new series concerning the world of A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones on TV) were under development. The author, George RR Martin has revealed in a tweet that the first of these series that is ordered to film will be named “The Long Night”:
Everybody that has seen the series surely are familiar with that period of timein the history of Westeros. The Long Night is a prequel to Game of Thrones and set thousands of years prior to the main/original series.
Who can they trust when humanity is at stake? From the mind of George R. R. Martin, Nightflyers is a psychological thriller, set in deep space on the eve of Earth’s destruction. A crew of explorers journey on the most advanced ship in the galaxy, The Nightflyer, and work to intercept a mysterious alien spacecraft that might hold the key to the planet’s survival. As the crew nears their destination however, they discover that mysterious forces and even their own minds are working against them. Coming soon to Netflix.
