Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran is a man with a lot on his mind. The former labor union high official and hitman, learned to kill serving in Italy during the Second World War. He now looks back on his life and the hits that defined his mob career, maintaining connections with the Bufalino crime family. In particular, the part he claims to have played in the disappearance of his life-long friend, Jimmy Hoffa, the former president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, who mysteriously vanished in late July 1975 at the age of 62.
Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci hits theaters November 1 and on Netflix November 27.
This could be the biggest move made by Netflix in their attempt to create original content. The Irishman is for now scheduled for a 2018 release and is to be directed by the legend Martin Scorsese, which has directed movies like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Goodfellas.
The director will work once more with Robert De Niro. The movie is based on the 2004 book I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brandt. The book centres on the exploits of the hitman and gangster Frank ‘The Irishman’ Sheeran.
